Russian Rights Sale – Unchained Man: The Life and Legacy of Captain Robert Abram Bartlett

Boulder Books is pleased to announce the sale of Russian language rights to a biography of legendary Newfoundland and Labrador polar explorer, Captain Robert Bartlett.

Paulsen Publishing has acquired the rights to publish Unchained Man: The Life and Legacy of Captain Robert Abram Bartlett, by author Maura Hanrahan. Originally published by Boulder Books in 2018, Unchained Man reveals the man behind the myth while celebrating the life of a central figure in Arctic exploration.

Moscow-based Paulsen specializes in publishing non-fiction, fiction and popular-science literature on the Arctic and the Antarctic. Its books include scientific research on the polar regions, the history of geographic discoveries, development of northern territories, and lives of indigenous peoples.

Unchained Man covers Bartlett’s greatest achievements, including his epic 700 mile walk across the frozen Arctic Ocean pack to Siberia from Alaska to save the crew and passengers of the ship Karluk, which had been crushed and sunk by ice. The book also reveals aspects of Bartlett’s personal life in the Newfoundland town of Brigus, where he is remembered as one of the greatest sailors to navigate the North Atlantic.

Maura Hanrahan is a professor of Indigenous Studies at the University of Lethbridge and an adjunct professor with Memorial University’s Environmental Policy Institute. She is an acclaimed scholar and author of eleven books in several genres, including a Canadian best-seller and winner of the NL History and Heritage Award Tsunami, the story of the 1929 catastrophe that killed numerous people in Newfoundland.
