“I Saw It First” follows young Noah and his family as they embark on an exciting camping trip to Gros Morne National Park. Packed with anticipation, the family sets out on a journey filled with the promise of wildlife sightings and outdoor exploration.

As the trip unfolds, Noah finds himself missing out on special sightings. Disappointed by his missed opportunities, Noah begins to feel left out as big sister, Maggie, and hid parents excitedly share their encounters with nature.

However, as the days pass and the family delves deeper into the wilderness, Noah’s perspective begins to shift. He becomes more attuned to the sights and sounds around him, eagerly exporting the trails and marveling at the beauty of the natural world.

Despite his earlier disappointments, Noah’s patience is rewards when, on the final day of the trip, he spots a majestic moose standing proud on the side of the road. With excitement and pride, Noah shares his discovery with his family, proving that sometimes the most wondrous sights are worth the wait.

Megan Schwartz is a primary school teacher living in Corner Brook on the island of Newfoundland’s west coast.  She was inspired to write this story based on her own experiences camping in Gros Morne National Park, where she witnessed firsthand the awe and wonder it inspires in her children.
